Drill a new bore
Overview
Challenge
Work for remote communities doesn’t come much more essential than this project in Wiitin, not only is the community remote but they also didn’t have reliable water supply. We needed to use our forward planning skills not only for the logistics of the project but also in order to create an end result that met the local communities long-term water supply needs.
What we faced:
Remote Management: Managing subcontractors in remote locations can be difficult due to distance, limited oversight, and variable access to resources and communication channels.
Immediate Water Needs: The community had no access to a reliable water supply, creating an urgent need to restore essential services quickly and safely.
Need For A Unique Fit for Purpose Bore: Designing and sizing a bore required careful consideration to ensure it met the Wiitin community’s long-term water demands, environmental conditions, and operational limitations.
Delivering In Isolated Locations: Working in remote communities in the Northern Territory means extreme distances, harsh climate, limited infrastructure, long travel times and restricted access during the wet season.
Respectful Community Engagement: Working in remote communities requires strong stakeholder engagement and cultural awareness to ensure projects align with local expectations and minimise disruption.
Solution
We ensured success through detailed logistics planning and fully equipped teams for remote delivery. Immediate water needs were met with regular deliveries while permanent works progressed. A robust bore system was delivered using thorough assessments and quality materials, supported by reliable subcontractors and clear communication. Early engagement with community leaders and Traditional Owners built trust and guaranteed long-term benefits.
What we delivered?
Connected & Trusted Teams: We engage reliable subcontractor's familiar with remote work, maintain regular communication and progress checks, and provide clear expectations to ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery across all project stages.
Temporary Water Solutions: While repairs were underway, we organised regular water deliveries to ensure the community’s immediate needs were met until the permanent water system was fully operational again.
A Bore That Lasts: We applied rigorous assessments and industry-leading standards, selecting high-quality materials and equipment to deliver a bore that’s reliable, efficient, and built to perform for the long term.
Operational Excellence: We plan each project with detailed logistics mapping, local supplier partnerships, and flexible scheduling to minimise travel delays. Our teams are equipped with everything need to do the job, such as tools, equipment, and spare parts. Ensuring seamless delivery even in the most remote areas and challenging terrain.
Respectful Community Engagement: Working in remote communities requires strong stakeholder engagement and cultural awareness to ensure projects align with local expectations and minimise disruption.
"Owning a Tennant Creek property and living interstate doesn’t have to be stressful or a concern when you have the right people on your team. We use Irish and the beautiful Sarah from Barkly Plumbing to manage our plumbing maintenance needs and we are extremely satisfied with the results."
Together, with community, government and industry, we’re building the water and gas infrastructure the Northern Territory depends on.
