Overview

Challenge

Delivering the Barkly Work Camp upgrade required working within a high-security prison environment while ensuring the facility remained functional during the transition from the old system to the new one. The project also had contractual requirements to utilise prison labour, adding complexity to supervision and compliance.

What we faced:

Prison Environment: Working in a prison environment has its own unique challenges that are not typical of a worksite.

Prison Labour: A contractual requirement for this project meant us leaning on the prisoners to support with the labour of the project.

Operational Continuity: An important part of the project meant that the prison must be kept functioning during the transitions from old to new systems.

Solution

Through careful planning and strict adherence to security protocols, we delivered the upgrade safely and efficiently. Our methodology included comprehensive security checks, controlled access procedures, and additional supervision for prison labour. We implemented a systematic disconnection and reconnection plan, building by building, and completed full testing and commissioning before go-live to ensure uninterrupted operations.

What we delivered?

Additional Security Measures: Strict security protocols for access, sign-on/off, and movement within the prison.

Enhanced Supervision and Checks: Dedicated oversight for prison labour and comply with additional checks from the prison system.

Operational Assurance: Keeping the prison fully functional during systematic disconnection and reconnection of sewer systems via a phased transition plan and rigorous testing before commissioning.
